‘Memoria’
When I first wrote Memoria, it was my pitch for the film. After my first meeting with the director, Travis was curious to hear what I could create based solely on the premise of the film. I hadn't seen the it yet—just a few images—so it was an exercise in capturing the essence of the story without visual influence but rather through its core meaning.
Travis and the team were so delighted with my work on Memoria that they brought me on to write the score for the entire film. Once I was officially on board and could watch the film, the process became even more intuitive. Scoring a film is about pacing the musical storytelling to support the narrative and add meaning we don’t always see on screen. For Chasing Light, my goal was to carry the story with a memorable theme that was flexible enough to be used in multiple emotional scenarios.
Ultimately, this piece represents the catharsis that someone would go through when remembering their entire life in an instant.
